Recently a group of us spent a most pleasant evening cruising on lake Windermere from Bowness.
The theme of the night was Evelyn Ward's book 'Vile Bodies' and Stephen Fry's film 'Pretty Young Things'

We met outside the hotel (more of that later) to walk the short distance to the pier.

                                                                         Bowness Pier.

During the interval a supper buffet was served which
gave us all time to catch our breath and enjoy the scenery.

Gillian & Peter danced at competiton level until retiring

This spiffing Deco Jazz cruise was organised by Steph & Anthony and we would all like to think that it will become a yearly event.
If you facing joining us next year visit http://www.jazzswingdance.co.uk/

However our night did not finish as the cruise ended quite the contary as we all decamped  up the hill (so much easier on the down ward walk) to Hydro Hotel to changed and get ready for our Summer Ball.

That however I will leave for another blogg.

Doll Face.

What Ho....

I spent Sunday at a 1940's weekend at Lytham St Anne's with Shady Ray. my sister and brother in law and had the pleasure of meeting this lovely lady and her doll of a baby.

I just loved the original carriage pram and the doll of a baby was just so scrumptious.
The attention to period detail was amazing and it is always so nice to met people like this lady who help to make event such as this one by becoming living history.

There is lots more coming soon with regards to this spiffing weekend.

Internal Slavery Rememberence Day

Each year 23 August is the International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition, on that day tributes are paid by people across the world to the tireless struggle of slaves for their freedom.
The date was chosen by UNESCO as it marks the anniversary of the uprising that took place on the island of Santo Domingo; known today as Haiti and the Dominican Republic; during the night of 22 to 23 August 1791, the events of that night shook the slave system, radically and irreversibly and have been credited with providing the impetus for the process which would lead to the abolition of slavery.
